Matunga Gym 6-Red snooker report
Ishpreet Singh Chadha of Khar Gymkhana and Hasan Badami of Cricket Club of India were both in the best of form and hardly put a foot wrong as they romped to convincing 5-0 victories in their respective best-of-9 frame 5th round qualifying matches of the Matunga Gymkhana 6-Red Open Snooker Tournament 2018, sponsored and hosted by Matunga Gymkhana, under the auspices of BSAM and played at the gymkhana’s billiards hall.
Ishpreet quickly got off the blocks and had no trouble in smothering the challenge from Mahesh Jagdale of Elphinstone Cricket Club winning in straight five frames. The Khar Gym cueist constructed breaks of 38 and 30 in the winning the opening two frames and then maintained the winning run of form as he cruised to a 39(38-break)-25, 37(30)-16, 29-26, 42-31 and 45-15 win to qualify for the main draw.
Hasan Badami also enjoyed a good run and with some fluent potting curbed the aspiration of Dhairya Bhandari of Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana by pulling off a win in five quick frames. Hasan started steadily and after pocketing the first two frames he compiled a run of 38 in the third and followed uo with a break of 30 in the next before going on to also easily win the fifth to wrap up the one-sided contest at 34-21, 37-19, 42(38)-2, 56(34)-0 and 46-9.
Another CCI cueist, Nikhil Ootam also made it to the main draw as he defeated Siddharth Parikh (Railways) 5-2 (42-7, 39-24, 36-29, 26-25, 0-61(38), 17-44, 39-10) in the final qualifying round encounter.
Defending champions Himanshu Jain (PSPB) got the better of Aditya Agarwal (Matunga Gym) 5-3 (40(23)-15, 11-44, 26-39, 44-23, 55-62, 43-6, 40-8, 62-53) and Rahul Sachdev (Cue Schooling) tamed Viren Sharma (Pune) 5-1 (51-24, 62(27)-8, 22-35, 35-20, 30-11, 47(47)-23) to book their berths in the next phase of the tournament.
