Abhay, Suraj top contenders for men’s title
Anahat Singh, the rising star of Indian squash along with Erisa Sano Herring of Japan, Chanithma Sinaly of Sri Lanka and Jelena Dutina of Serbia are the strong contenders to win the women’s crown in JSW-Willingdon Little Masters and Senior Squash Open, scheduled to take place from January 13 to 17, 2024, at the prestigious Willingdon Sports Club, Worli, here, in Mumbai.
The 15-year-old Anahat, world rank 130, who recently clinched the girl’s under-19 title in the Scottish Junior Open and the National women and girls’ under-19 champion, is expected to face quite a challenge from Japanese Erisa, world rank 126 in the women’s draw. Chanithma (world rank 172) and Jelena (world rank 192) are also in contention of going the distance in the women’s draw.
The fight for the men’s title will come from Indian challengers, 25-year-old Abhay Singh (world rank 73), 22-year-old Suraj Chand (world rank 170), 23-year-old Rahul Baitha (world rank 173) and 21-year-old Australian Remi Young (world rank 312).
Competition will also be conducted for boys’ and girls’ in the U-9, U-11, U-13, U-15, U-17 and U-19 categories, men masters 35, 45 and 55 age categories.
