Indian Oil down spirited Republicans

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), New Delhi overcame the spirited challenge from Bombay Republicans, Mumbai before coasting to a 5-1 victory in a Group-A league match of the 15th All India Guru Tegh Bahadur Gold Cup Hockey Tournament 2019, at the MHAL stadium, Churchgate on Monday.

 

The youthful Bombay Republicans side put up quite a fighting performance against the formidable IOC team, boasting of several Olympians and international stars in the ranks. They wasted a series of chances and poor defending proved to be Republicans downfall.

 

IOC scored through Roshan Minz (10th min), Dilpreet Singh (16th min), Talwinder Singh (28th min), Armaan Qureshi (42nd min) and Mohd. Raheel Mouseen (54th min). Bombay Republicans managed just one goal scored by Darshan Gawkar (29th min).

 

In the second match of the day, Maharashtra State Police, Mumbai recovered to share honours with Food Corporation of India, Pune in a tame and listless 1-1 draw. The Pune outfit took the lead through Venkatesh Devkar’s goal in the 6th minute before th policemen equalized through Shrikant Kalakuti’s goal in the 60th minute.

 

This was the second win for IOC while Republicans suffered their first defeat after thy had beated Food Corporation 3-0 in the opening match. Both Food Corporation and Maharashtra Police have one point from two games. In the concluding league matches, Food Corporation meet IOC and Republicans take on Maharashtra Police.

 

Results –

Group-A: Food Corporation of India, Pune 1 (Venkatesh Devkar 6) drew with Maharashtra State Police, Mumbai 1 (Shrikant Kalakuti 60).

 

Indian Oil Corporation, New Delhi 5 (Roshan Minz 10, Dilpreet Singh 16, Talwinder Singh 28, Armaan Qureshi 42, Mohd. Mouseen 54) beat Bombay Republicans, Mumbai 1 (Darshan Gawkar 29).
