The Indian ‘A’ boys TT teams fine showing came to an end and they finished with the bronze medal in the Junior Boy’s Team event of the SET 2017 Thailand Junior & Cadet Open, and ITTF World Junior Circuit Golden Series tournament, in Bangkok. The Indian ‘A’ team, comprising of Manav Thakkar, Parth Virmani and Manush Shah, were unable to play their usual game and their previous performance as they lost 0-3 to Japan in the semi-final round, according to information received here, on Thursday.
India found the going tough from the start and could not offer much of a challenge to the Japanese lads as Manush was easily beaten by Fumiya Igarashi 5-11, 5-11, 3-11 in the first rubber. In the second rubber, Manav started on a promising note by winning the first two games, but he could not maintain the momentum and lost to Seiya Numamura in five games at 11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 2-11, 11-13. Later, Parth also lost tamely to Ryu Hiruta by a 5-11, 3-11, 6-11 scoreline.
Earlier in the quarter-final round, the Indian team rallied to overcame Hong Kong 3-1. India started badly with Manush losing the opening rubber to Tsz Tsun Tsang by 9-11, 9-11, 12-10, 5-11. But, India bounced back in the second rubber as Manav defeated Pak Hei Cheng in five games at 11-8, 11-9, 6-11, 11-13, 11-6 to level the scores. Later, Parth Virmani got the better of Baldwin Chan 11-8, 9-11, 11-5, 16-14 and then Manav won his second match defeating Tsz Tsun Tsang 11-5, 11-8, 11-6 to seal India’s win.
