The Indian team chased the target in 15.5 overs to win this match to record this big win. Captain Ajinkya Rahane and opener Shubham Gill remained unbeaten. This turned out to be a historic win for India after losing the first test very miserably, recording their lowest total in the tests, in spite of taking 53 runs lead in the first innings.

Ajinkya Rahane who led the side in absence of Virat Kohli, established few records in this test. He became the second Indian cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar to score highest runs at Melbourne in five innings he played there. He also became one of the two Indians with two centuries at MCG. Ajinkya has also won three tests successively as a captain, the record which was set earlier by M.S. Dhoni, while he was the captain.

What is to be appreciated is that the Indian team won this test in absence of their two best batsmen. The Skipper has thanked his team for the finest team spirit displayed. Special thanks to debutants Shubham Gill and Mohammed Siraj for their fine show. Best performance also came from all rounder Ravindra Jadeja, pacers Jaspreet Bumrah, Umesh Yadav and spinner R. Ashwin. Now, all eyes on the return of Rohit Sharma for the 3rd test beginning from 6th January 2021.
