Impressive Central cruise to another easy victory


Central Railway raced to another impressive performance and handed Republicans Sports Club a 6-1 defeat in a Super Division match of the Mumbai Hockey League 2022-2023, jointly organized by Hockey Mumbai City and Hockey Mumbai Suburbs, and played at the Don Bosco High School Hockey Turf, Matunga on Thursday evening.


Central Railway’s Mohammed Nizamuddin won the ‘Player of the Match’ award and is seen receiving the prize from Manoj Bhore, General Secretary, Hockey Maharashtra.

The Republicans youngsters showed a lot of promise initially and kept the experienced Central Railway in check. But in the final minute of first quarter, Central Railway forged into the lead with Nirmal Chinnappa converting for a penalty corner. Later, Victo Singh and Pankaj Singh scored from open play to provide Central with a commanding 3-0 half-time lead.

On resumption, Central Railway continued in the same attacking vein and Mohammed Nizamuddin added the fourth before Pankaj scored his second to increase the lead to 5-0.

In the final quarter, Republicans managed to get a consolation goal through a strike from Mario Fernandes. Central Railway captain Roshan Keisham scored the sixth goal to round-off the tally.

Central Railway with this their fourth successive win now have 12 points and lead the standings in 7-team league.
