First Division final of the MDFA League 2017-18
ICL-Payyade strikers displayed steely nerves and better accuracy as they overcame Atlanta FC 4-2 via the tie-breaker in the First Division final of the MDFA League 2017-18 and the played at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel.
Opportunist striker Nico Gonsalves hit the target in the 30th minute to give ICL the lead but Atlanta fought back and snatched the equaliser through Karan Prajapati’s goal midway through the second half and take the match to the tie-breaker.
In the tie breaker, ICL successfully converted through Prateek Thakur, Dhrumil Kakkad and Piyush Salunkhe, while Atlanta could only score through Aashish Chavan. Consistent scorers Roystein Veigas, Juventus D’Mello and Riane D’Souza all failed with their attempts and they had to settle for second best.
Results – Div-I (final): ICL-Payyade SC 4 (Nico Gonsalves, Prateek Thakur, Dhrumil Kakkad, Piyush Salunkhe) beat Atlanta FC 2 (Karan Prajapati, Aashish Chavan) via the tie-breaker. Full-time: 1-1.
