After an intense day of sporting action, it was Hiya Doshi of DY Patil International School, Worli and Jash Jobalia of Utpal Sanghvi Global School who took the top honours in the girls’ & boys’ Under-15 table tennis event respectively of Sports For All 2016, at the DY Patil Stadium, Nerul on Sunday.
Taking on Hiya Mehta of Utpal Sanghvi Global School in the girls’ Under-15 competition, Hiya Doshi was in her dominating best and won the match 11-7, 11-8, 11-8 & 11-5 to walk away with the gold medal. Tiya Wagh of Billabong High International School beat Siya Hingorany of R.N Podar School, Santacruz 11-4, 11-9, 11-6 & 11-6 to win the bronze medal. In the boys’ championship, Jash beat Arnav Karnavar of Bal Bharti Public School, Kharghar by 11-9, 11-4, 11-7 & 11-6 to win the gold medal. In the third place play-off match, Ronit Mirchandani of R.N Podar School, Santacruz staved off a strong challenge from Rhiaan Jhaveri of Dhirubhai Ambani International School to win 11-9, 11-6, 4-11, 10-12, 11-8 & 14-12 to end with the bronze medal.
In boys’ Under-10 archery championship, Shlok Bhat of I.E.S .V.N Sule Guruji English School won the gold medal, while Aarush Shah of Jamnabai Narsee School took the silver. The bronze medal went to Saurish Naini of I.E.S Manik Vidyamandir. In the Under-10 girls’ category, Krsha Naik of Arya Vidya Mandir, Bandra reigned supreme to win the gold medal. Madhavi Shanbhag of Balmohan Vidya Mandir (Marathi) won the silver medal while Swanandi Bachim of Holy Cross High School, Kurla took the bronze.
In the swimming category, Siddhant Khopade of St. Xaviers High School, Airoli clocked 59:95 seconds to win the 100 metres Under-16 boys’ freestyle event, while Aryan Khadare of DAV Nerul finished with a timing of 01:01 minutes to win the silver. Rishabh Rao of Jamnabai Narsee School clocked 01:06 minutes to end with bronze. In the girls’ Under-16 100 metres freestyle category, Apeksha Srirao of Appejay School, Kharghar clocked 01:27 minutes to win the gold medal. The silver medal went to Aafreen Jaliwala of St. Annes High School who finished with a time of 01:17 minutes to win the silver, while Vedanti Surve of Vasant Vihar High School won the bronze after she ended with a time of 01:19 minutes.
Also today in its initiative to promote sports amongst the differently abled kids, SFA had organised the differently abled kids day with as many as 75 kids from Special Olympics Bharat taking part in different sports such as basketball, handball, swimming and table tennis.
In the girls’ Under-14 kho-kho championship, R.F Naik Vidyalaya and JR. College beat Rajshree Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Vidyalaya 14-09 to win the gold, while Shivajinagar Municipal Hindi School No.2 beat Matoshri Vidyamandir, Mankhurd to win the bronze. The boys’ Under-14 championship Rajshree Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Vidyalaya beat R.F Naik Vidyalaya and JR. College by 19-12 to take the gold. Matoshri Vidyamandir, Mankhurd beat Unnat Nagar to win the bronze medal.
In carom Under-12 girls’ event, Sakhee Datar of Nalanda Public School won the gold, while the silver and the bronze went to Madhura Devle of Saraswati Mandir Trust Thane , Ghodbunder and Lavanya Nair of St. Augustine High School respectively. The boys’ Under-12 event saw Hilansh Chiplunkar of Vanita Vishram High School win the gold, while Aniruddh Chavan of Vanita Vishram High School won the silver.Atharva Khemkar of I.E.S V.N Sule Guruji English School won the bronze.
In the medal tally after leading the table for past few days, Vibgyor High School, Malad has been toppled from the top spot by Lady Ratanbai & Sir Mathuradas Vissanji Academy. Vissanji Academy now lead the race with 20 gold, 14 silver and 21 bronze. Vibgyor are hot on their trails with 20 gold, 12 silver and 18 bronze, while Jamnbai Narsee School are third with their tally of 13 gold, 16 silver and 18 bronze.
