Vinayak Bhoir’s excellent bowling performance 5 for 27 runs helped P.J. Hindu Gymkhana recorded a 6-wicket victory against UPL-Sponsors XI on the first day of their third round Group-D match of the 75th UPL-Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament 2022-23, played at the Hindu Gymkhana ground on Saturday.
Electing to bat first, UPL batters struggled against the spin bowling of Bhoir and were dismissed for 111 runs in 34.4 overs. Dhruv Thakkar top-scored with an unbeaten 38 runs. In reply, Hindu Gymkhana easily reached the winning target scoring 114 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20.1 overs. Harsh Salunkhe 40 runs and Sachin Wagh unbeaten 31 runs ensure Hindu Gymkhana sail to victory. UPL bowler Pushkaraj Chavan took 3 for 24 runs.
In another match of the same group, hosts Mumbai Police Gymkhana powered by another splendid bowling display from Yogesh Patil restricted Victory Cricket Club to 200 all out in 51.2 overs. The leading batsman was Jay Bista who scored 91 runs, while Shashwat Jagtap 31 played a good supporting role. Medium pacer Patil claimed 7 wickets for just 46 runs.
The third round matches witnessed five centuries on the opening day. Ashay Sardesai made 103 (153-balls, 14×4) in leading Dr. D.Y. Patil SA to a score of 248 for 5 wickets, 59 overs in their Group-A match against Parsee Gymkhana.
In another match of the same group, Shivaji Park Gymkhana batters Jayesh Pokhare 141 runs (124-balls, 21×4, 5×6) and Gandhar Bhatawadekar unbeaten 109 runs (90-balls, 12×4, 4x 6) helped their team reach a total of 357 for 4 wickets, 60 overs against Islam Gymkhana.
Tanmay Mishra 118 (121-balls, 20×4) notched up another century in leading MCA Colts 361 for 5 wickets in 62 overs against Sind Sports Club in a Group-B match.
Bombay Gymkhana’s Nikhil Patil scored an unbeaten 109* (107-balls, 9×4, 7×6) as they reached 275 for 5 wickets in 58 overs.
