Himanshu Jain of GAIL (India) Ltd., maintained his outstanding winning run of form as he recorded a surprising 7-1 victory against an uncharacteristic Faisal Khan of Indian Railways in best-of-13 frame finals of the Matunga Gymkhana 6-Red Open Snooker Tournament 2018, sponsored and hosted by Matunga Gymkhana, under the auspices of BSAM and played at the gymkhana’s billiards hall.

The Telangana-based Jain received the ‘Champions’ trophy and winners prize of Rs 50,000 from Vidyadhar Moghe, General Secretary, Matunga Gymkhana, while BSAM President Yasin Merchant presented Faisal Khan with the runner-up trophy and the cheque of Rs 30,000. Yasin who had compiled a break 73 in his opening match walked away with highest break prize of Rs 5,000.

The PSPB cueist Jain, who had emerged winner of the 9-Red event last year, enjoyed a good roll of the balls and did not have to anything exceptional as he went on to emerge champion. On the other hand, Faisal had a bad day and struggled to find his rhythm. He had his chances, but could not build on them and had to settle for second best.

Jain who was more consistent with his pots raced away to a 6-0 lead before Faisal finally managed to get on the scoreboard winning the seventh frame. But, Jain who managed to build small but substantial breaks of 24 in the first frame, 30 in the third and 37 in the fifth frames cruised to an easy 34(break-24)-23, 43-11, 41(30)-33, 42-0, 41(37)-0, 43-32, 18-32 and 40-30 victory.
