Harikrishna shares spoils in Round 7 of Shamkir Chess 2017


Indian Grand Master Pentala Harikrishna played out a hard-fought draw against World No. 20 Radoslaw Wojtaszek in his Round 7 encounter late on Friday at the Shamkir Chess 2017 tournament.

 

The game which went on for about four hours and lasted 56 moves, proved to be stalemate for the both the players as they decided to share the spoils after they tried all the tricks up their sleeves.

 

Earlier on Thursday evening, the World No. 14 Indian had to pull up his socks against higher rated English Grand Master Michael Adams in his Round six game to lead the game towards a draw.

 

“Adams repeated the variation which Kramnik played in the fourth round which led to many interesting exchanges afterwards, which I countered tactfully due to which the game proceeded to a draw,” the Hyderabadi said after his Round six game.

 

With five draws and two losses in the tournament, Harikrishna is placed 10th with two and a half points on the leaderboard.

 

Harikrishna, the sole Indian Grand Master in the tournament will take on Veselin Topalov of Bulgaria who is currently placed second on the points table in his next round.
