Indian grandmaster Harika Dronavalli registered two wins, a draw and a loss on the third day to end her campaign in the 2016 FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championships (Open and Women) on a high note, here on Wednesday.
Harika, playing in the Women World Rapid category won four, drew five and loss thrice in the three daylong tournament to finish on the 16th position in the championship table.
The World No.7 with an ELO rating of 2464 started the day against the International Grandmaster and ELO rated 2326 Sofio Gvetadze of Georgia. The Indian was in her elements from the word go and did not commit any mistake to notch up a thrilling victory.
In her second encounter, she took Anna Ushenina of Ukraine with an ELO rating of 2498. Anna, a strong favourite to win the game used all her experience to get better off Harika, however the Indian stood her ground with a staunch defence to play out an exciting draw.
With momentum on her side, it looked like she will have it easy over the lowly ranked player International Master Pham Le Thao Nyugen of Vietnam. But few errors during the course of the match saw her get in dangerous position. She tried to fight her way back into the match, but it was little too late and she had to concede her third loss of the tournament.
In her last game of the tournament, she was up against Woman Grandmaster Mahri Geldiyeva of Turkmenistan. The Hyderabadi lass avoided repeating her mistakes from the previous game and displayed a flawless performance to pick her fourth victory of the meet on finish the tournament on a positive note.
