Harika defeats German FM Babar

Indian Grand Master Harika Dronavalli continued her momentous winning streak, as she handed the German FIDE Master Michael Babar a defeat after a long and grueling second-round encounter in the Isle of Man International Tournament, late on Sunday night.

The World No. 10 Indian, playing with black pieces, started off with an attacking frame of mind and put the pressure on her opponent from the initial stages of the game.

Even though the German tried all the tricks up his sleeve, he couldn’t contain Harika’s attacking moves and succumbed to the pressure after fighting it out for a massive 46 moves.

“I got into an advantageous position in the initial phases of the game and didn’t let off the pressure to gradually push him out,” conceded the lass from Guntur.

Harika will take on Swedish Grand Master Nils Grandelius in her next encounter and will be looking to continue her winning run to the third-round as well.

“I am completely focused on the next game and will look to keep the momentum in my favour,” Harika concluded on a positive note.
