Producing a brilliant all-round performance, Greater Mumbai Police SC ‘B’ emerged champions defeating JSW Steel Ltd. SC by a convincing 9-wickets in the ‘C’ Division final of the MCA Corporate Trophy 2023-24, organized by the Mumbai Cricket Association and played at the Mumbai Police Gymkhana ground, Marine Drive on Thursday.
Electing to bat first, JSW Steel batted irresponsibly and were bowled out for a paltry 88 in 17.5 overs. Later, Mumbai Police easily surpassed the winning target reaching 90 for one wicket in 15 overs.
Mumbai Police playing with plenty of determination rocked the JSW Steel top order picking three early wickets with just five runs on the board in the second over. Both the openers Parag Jadhav (3 runs) and captain Nitesh Koli (1 run) were run out and number three left-handed bat Ishaque Shaikh did not open his account. Thereafter, middle order bats, left-handed Mohit Tamaichekar 33 and Ramesh Kami 19 managed to arrest the slide with a 43-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
But, Mumbai Police bowlers, left-arm spinner Anuj Giri 2 for 29 and leg-spinner Swapnil 2 for 28 once again put pressure on the rival batters and claimed the remaining wickets at regular intervals to restrict JSW Steel to a low total.
Later, Mumbai Police faced no problems from the JSW Steel bowlers as the opening batting pair of Yash Ramchandani unbeaten 40 runs (39-balls, 5×4) and Tanmay Mayekar 29 runs stitched together a partnership of 63 runs for the first wicket which put them on the road to victory. Later, Chintamani Kamble unbeaten 12 runs in the company of Ramchandani ensured no more setbacks and the team easily crossed the finish line with plenty to spare.
Mumbai Police left-arm spinner Anuj Giri 2 for 29 was later declared as the ‘Player of the final’.
