Over 400 leading male and female bodybuilding and physique sports athletes, representing 28 Asian countries, will showcase their perfectly toned and muscular bodies as they compete for the top honours in the 52nd Asian Body Building and Physique Sports Championship, to be held at the Shri Shiv Chatrapati Sports Complex, Mhalunge, Balewadi, Pune from October 5 to 7.
Talking to the media on Wednesday, Datuk Paul Chua, Secretary General – World Body Building and Physique Sports Federation, President- Asian Body Building and Physique Sports Federation, said that Iraq were making a comeback after 15 years while for the first time Para athletes will also showcase their skills and physique in the championship which will be held at the badminton hall in Balewadi sports complex.
Host India will rely on the strong shoulders of in-form athletes Sunit Jadhav and Yatinder Singh, while Sarita Devi (Manipur), Mamta Devi (Delhi), SanjanaDalak (Uttar Pradesh) and Ankita Singh (Karnataka) will lead in women’s Physique sports categories. Special participation of Nishrin Parikh (Maharashtra) at the age of 52 years will add weight to the Indian contingent. Indian athletes will face stiff competition from Thailand, Iran, Myanmar and Uzbekistan who have fielded one of their best contingents so far.
Speaking to the media, Datuk Paul Chua said, “Competition in a total of 51 events in various categories will be conducted for junior men and women and Senior men and women bodybuilding and physique sports categories, during the event.” He further added, “We are reviving the Physically Challenged category after 20 years to encourage Physically Challenged athletes.”
After hosting a successful Mr. World in 2014, this time IBBF is extremely delighted to host the 52nd Asian Body Building and Physique Sports Championship 2018, in India said Pathare.
Also present were Sugree Supawarikul- Secretary General- Asian Body Building and Physique Sports Federation, Christina Kam, Executive Director, WBPF, along with Premchand Degra, President- IBBF, Swamy Ramesh, Treasurer, IBBF, Prashant Apte, President, Maharashtra Bodybuilding Association and key officials of the Indian Body Builders Federation. Pathare went on to add, that this event will help in picking up a strong Indian contingent for international.
