MTC Royals and Supreme Fighters, both registered their second successive victories in Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ league matches respectively in the 2nd edition of the iProspect-Mumbai Super League (MSL) Table Tennis Championship organized by 11Even Sports and played at the NSCI on Friday.
Producing another good all-round performance MTC Royals did well to hold back a strong challenge from Century Warriors before going on to clinch a close 5-4 win in the 9-game encounter. This was the second win for Royals who had defeated The TopSpinner 7-2 in the first outing on Thursday evening.
Supreme Fighters who had prevailed over Phantom Stars 7-2 in the opening Group ‘B’ encounter, maintained their winning momentum and managed to overcome King Pong by 5 games to 4 in the best-of-9-game affair.
Meanwhile, Divya Deshpande, Aditi Sinha and Ashwin Subramanian, all came up with winning performances to guide Phantom Stars to their maiden win, as they got the better of Kool Smashers by a narrow 5-4 margin in a Group ‘B’ encounter. Divya defeated Ruchira Manerkar 3-1 in the women’s singles and then teamed up with Jignesh Rahatwal to win the mixed doubles game against Sanil Shetty and Ruchira Manerkar also by a 3-1 verdict. Aditi along with Ashwin Subramanian won the junior girls and boys’ mixed doubles tie against Tanmay Rane and Krisha Agarwal 3-1 and then easily beat Krisha Agarwal 3-0 in the junior girls’ singles match. In the final game, Ashwin put it across Tanmay Rane in four games winning the junior boys singles game at 3-1.
At the end of three rounds, late evening MTC Royals with 180 points occupy the top position in Group ‘A’, while Kool Smashers with 150 points are placed atop the Group ‘B’.
