Borivali’s Don Bosco made an impressive start as both their under-16 and under-14 teams advanced into their respective semifinals of the Poinsur Gymkhana Inter-school football tournament, held at Poinsur Gymkhana ground here today. However, both took different paths on their way to victories. While the under-16 outfit thrashed Dahisar’s Shailendra Education Society 5-0, the junior string strugged a bit before they got the better of Rustomjee International from Dahisar by a solitary goal.
It was Mitesh Kasare’s lightening strike right in the first minute that gave Don Bosco an upper hand in the under-16 quarterfinals. He later added another in the 16th minute. He was well supported by forwards Sahil Sawant, who added two more in the 24th and 31st minutes while Kunal Mayekar completed the tally.
Defending champions St. Francis D’Assiss, too, made the last four stage in both the under-16 and under-14 sections. In the under-16, they beat St. Xavier’s (Borivali) 2-0, while in the under-14, they overpowered St. Joseph’s (Malad) 2-1.
