The day four of Sports For All 2016, saw the young football champions from Mumbai schools battle it out to assert their early dominance in the football event at the DY Patil Stadium, Nerul here on Thursday.
The day saw around 600 students from close to 50 schools participate in the three different categories namely the boys’ Under 12& Under 10 and Girls’ Under 12, played in six a side format with each half lasting for 15 minutes. Each team were involved in two league matches for the day and a total of 70 matches were played with Vineet Nisal of Cambridge School, Kandivali and Sanathomba Singh of Reliance Foundation School shone with their performance as they ended the day as the highest scorers with seven goals apiece in the Under 12 category.
In the girl’s section, Charvi Sanghvi of JBCN International School scored six goals in two matches to finish as the best performer of the day. In the boys’ Under 10 category Viraj Singh of Cambridge School, Kandivali scored the maximum of four goals.
With all the teams trying to consolidate their position on the league table, it was the Akim Ali Mitha Urdu High School who stole the limelight in boys’ Under 12 category, with their 11-0 win against St. Lawrence High School, Borivali. The Urdu players made their intent right clear right from the start and Lawrence boys had no answers for the onslaught. It was Shaikh Nizam who proved to be the tormentor in chief for the opponents as he found the nets four times. He was well supported by his teammates Shaikh Mehfuz, who scored thrice, while Shaikh Zafar pumped in a brace. Ansari Hussain and Shaikh Nizam grabbed a goal apiece.
Cambridge School, Kandivali were equally ruthless against their dominance beating their hapless opponents 9-0 in the boys’ Under-12 category. Sayam Sethia and Rishi Shah were the most impressive players from the team and scored a treble apiece. Karkare Rushil chipped in with a brace while Jodhavat Hith beat the custodian once.
In another boys’ Under 12 tie, Holy Cross Convent School, Mira Road beat St. Lawrence School, Vashi 8-1. Chris Fernandes and Avalon bagged three goals each, while Avalon D’Souza & Menezes Leroy scored one each. For, St. Lawrence, Amir Siddique’s goal was the only consolation.
In the girls’ event, it was JBCN International School which produced one of the best performances of the day by beating Avalon Heights International School 5-1, thanks to their young striker Charvi Sanghvi who scored all the five goals.
