Goalkeeper Payal Basude to lead Maharashtra women team


Goalkeeper Payal Basude of Mumbai District has been entrusted the responsibility of captaining the Maharashtra team that will be participating in the final rounds of the AIFF 27th Senior Women National Football Championship 2022-2023, to be played in Amritsar, Punjab.

The 22-members of the Maharashtra state team, along with Head Coach Sanaya Anklesaria, Manager Asha Naidu and physio Bhagyashree Karkera are seen with WIFA Gen Secretary Souter Vaz before their departure to Amritsar to participate in the final rounds of the AIFF 27th Senior Women National Football Championship 2022-2023.

Sanaya Anklesaria of Mumbai District is the Head Coach of the 22-member Maharashtra team, while Asha Naidu of Pune District is the Manager. Bhagyashree Karkera will accompany the team as the physiotherapist. Afreen Peerbhoy also of Mumbai District was appointed as the Vice-Captain and Anjali Barke of Pune is the second goalkeeper.

The girls look confident and well-prepared as they went through a strenuous training sessions under the guidance of coach Anklesaria at the Cooperage ground before leaving for Amritsar.

The team consists of 10 players from Mumbai District, six from Pune District, two each from Kolhapur and Gondia Districts, and one each from Palghar and Buldana Districts.

Maharashtra will launch their campaign against Manipur on Thursday morning at the GNDU ground at 7.30 am. They will meet Haryana on Saturday (June 17) at 4.30 pm and West Bengal on Monday (June19) at 7.30 am. In the penultimate league encounter, Maharashtra take on Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday (June 21) and play the concluding league match against Railways on Friday (June 23).

The matches will be played at the GNDU and Khalsa College grounds.
