Goalkeeper Jivan Shinde was outstanding in the Central Railway citadel and played a significant match-winning performance in the team’s 3-0 shootout victory against the fancied Mumbai Customs in the Super Division second semi-finals of the Mumbai Hockey League 2022-2023, jointly organized by Hockey Mumbai City and Hockey Mumbai Suburbs, and played at the Don Bosco High School Hockey Turf, Matunga on Saturday evening.
Mumbai Customs were dominant from the outset and earned almost a dozen penalty corners but they were unable to beat Central Railway goalkeepers Shinde and Mujahid Khan, who had started in the goal in the first quarter.
After the match finished in a goalless stalemate Shinde played the role of a spoiler and foiled three attempts from the Customs players which helped Central Railway clinch the win. Shinde denied Ikitdar Ishrat, Suraj Sahi and Aniket Gurav from scoring in the shootout while only Navin Kheratkar managed to beat the Central Railway custodian Shinde.
On the other hand, Central Railway successfully converted all the first three attempts through Mohammed Nizamuddin, Vinit Kamble and Ruben Kedari to complete a satisfying win and a place in the final.
The Central custodian Shinde for his match-winning efforts was later adjudged as the ‘Player of the Match’.
Result: Central Railway 3 (Mohammed Nizamuddin, Vinit Kamble, Ruben Kedari) beat Mumbai Customs 1 (Navin Kheratkar).
