Greater Mumbai Badminton Association’s (GMBA) talented shuttler Taarini Suri bagged a double crown winning the Girl’s Under-17 singles and doubles titles while Harshit Mahimkar partnering Ketaki Thite clinched the Under-15 mixed doubles title in the Maharashtra State Sub-Junior Under-15 and Under-17 Selection Tournament which concluded in Pune on Sunday.
The 16-year-old Taarini, who trains at the Cricket Club of India under the guidance of coach Hufrish Nariman, waged a grim battle with Nagpur’s Nishika Gokhe before managing to come out trumps with a fighting 21-11, 21-23, 21-17 victory in the singles final. She then teamed up with Nashik’s Shravani Walekar and the two combined perfectly to get the better of Gokhe and Yutika Chavan (Pune) coasting to a straight game 21-18, 21-12 win to complete a perfect week at the PDMBA courts.
Earlier, Mahimkar and Thite pairing up for the first time showed no nerves as they played confidently to defeat Sarthak Nalavade of Aurangabad and Rutika Kamble of Kolhapur 21-13, 21-18. The combination did not lose a single game throughout the tournament.
