India’s flambouyant middle-order batsman and the T20 Vice-Captain Suryakumar Yadav was nostalgic as he entered the majestic Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera along with the Indian team for a training session ahead of the third and deciding T20 international against New Zealand.
Yadav, who had made his debut against England at this gigantic stadium in 2021, was thrilled to return back to the venue and he reminisced about those memories as he walked into the dressing room.
“As I came to the ground and as I walked into the dressing room I told the manager that this ground brings back fond memories, as on this very ground I played my first match. This is a fantastic stadium and a wonderful ground, so it will always feel good to play in front of such a large number of fans,” Yadav had said on the eve of the match.
However, Indian opener Shubham Gill with a swashbuckling unbeaten knock of 126 runs, stole the limelight from Yadav, who made just 24 runs. Gill’s hurricane innings came from just 63 balls and was studded with 12 solid hits to the boundary ropes and seven powerful sixes. His stroke-filled knock powered India to a mammoth total of 234 for 4 wickets and a massive 168-run victory over the Kiwis and win the series 2-1.
