Ghatkopar Jolly Gym emerge champions


The combined efforts of left-arm spinner Kvya Gori who claimed 5 wickets for 40 runs and the century knock from opening bat Siddhant Rai 160 runs was the highlights as Ghatkopar Jolly Gymkhana emerged champions defeating Shivaji Park Gymkhana on the basis of gaining the first innings lead in the two-day final of the MCA Naren Tamhane Trophy Under-19 cricket tournament, played at the MCA ground, BKC on Monday.

Electing to bat first, Shivaji Park Gymkhana were bowled out for 162 runs in 42.3 overs in their first innings. Besides Gori’s inspiring spell his teammates Harsh More 3 for 60 and Aryan Shetule 2 for 38 shared the remaining wickets. Varun Raje 49 runs and Rudra Sukale 32 runs were only the two Shivaji Park batters who stayed long at the crease.

Later, the Ghatkopar side started in positive fashion with the left-handed Rai playing a composed innings and his knock consumed 269 balls and was laced with 30 well-struck boundaries. Half century efforts from Aaditya Parab 68 runs and Aadit Degaonkar 56 runs further swelled the total. Shivaji Park’s Agasthya Bangera 4 for 81, Aryan Chavan 3 for 84 and Varun Ragji 2 for 78 were responsible to dismiss the opponents, who claimed the crucial first innings lead.

Shivaji Park in their second essay were 110 for 4 wickets from 30 overs when stumps were drawn.

Rai for his solid batting effort won the ‘Man of the Match’ award. The Best Batsman awards went to Raj Deshmukh (Karnatak Centre) who scored 368 runs and the Best Bowler award was won by Kavya Gori (Ghatkopar Jolly Gymkhana) who took 25 wickets.
