Divesh Gangwani of Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana (JVPG) and Sanjiv Bijlani of Park Club both produced steady performances to set a clash in the final of the BSAM Grassroot Snooker Challenge 2018.
In the best-of-7-frame semi-finals, Gangwani prevailed over Vishal Gehani of Park Club by a 4-1 margin, at the Garware Club House billiards hall. In the second semi-final, Bijlani quashed the aspirations of Chiplun’s talented cueist Siddhesh Mulay winning the contest by a comfortable 4-2 scoreline.
The JVPG player Divesh, who is enjoying an excellent run in the tournament, shared the first two frames with Gehani, but thereafter he started to play confidently and whipped up a break of 32 in winning the third and continued to stay in control as he also took the fourth to open up a 3-1 lead. Gehani managed to win the fifth to cut the deficit, before Divesh won a close sixth frame to complete a 59-29, 12-64, 63-12), 67-44, 51-79 and 50-43 victory and a shot at the title.
In the second semi-final, Bijlani was cool and composed as he outwitted his opponent from Chiplun by snatching a deserving 62-38, 68-37, 53-66, 46-34 and 71-42 win.
