Nadkarni Cup Football
Defending champions Air India sailed into the final of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) Nadkarni Cup (knock out) Football Tournament, organised and sponsored by RCF. Air India held on to their early lead to overcome a spirited Kenkre FC 1-0 in a tight semi-final encounter, at the RCF ground, Chembur on Friday.
Air India’s consistent scorer Neil Gaikwad gave his team a positive start when he found the back of the net in the ninth minute. That strike proved to be sufficient for Air India to progress to the summit round.
Meanwhile, Kenkre FC coach Salim Pathan was shown the red card after he protested a referee’s decision and later used abusive language against the official.
In the final, Air India will take on the winner of the second semi-final to be played between Mumbai Customs and Mumbai FC on Saturday, November 28 at 2.00 p.m.
