Former renowned TT player Baji Khambatta is no more


Burjor Khambata, popularly known as Baji Khambata who played Table Tennis at the national and international level is no more. He passed away few days ago after a brief illness. He was 87. Baji played Table tennis during 50 s and 60s at the national level and was among the top ranked players of India. With his solid defensive game, he had beaten many top Indian players of his time.

After retiring from the national level Table Tennis Baji Khambata continued to play for his State Bank of India team at the first division TT league tournaments in Mumbai till late 70s and early 80s. Later, he was appointed selector of Maharashtra teams. In the recent past, he was felicitated by Parsee Gymkhana for his contribution to the game of table tennis. During the past few years he spent his evening time leisurely at the PJ Hindi Hindu Gymkhana card room.

Baji was known to his friends as a soft spoken person . He had a very good memory and remembered all his matches and his opponents. With his sad demise, the table tennis fraternity has lost a perfect gentleman.
