Former Cricketer Vasoo Paranjape is no more


Vasudeo Jagannath Paranjape popularly known as Vasoo Paranjape is no more. The former cricketer who was also a Coach at the National Cricket Academy passed away yesterday due to age related problems. He was 82. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and son Jatin – former India cricketer and national selector. His son Jatin had co-authored a book titled Cricket Drona’  which was based on the life story of his dear father.

Vasoo Paranjape played first class cricket for Mumbai and Baroda Cricket teams between 1956 and 1970. He was a member of Mumbai team which won Ranji Trophy on 12 occasions. After his retirement from cricket, he became a mentor and administrator and also served as a coach at National Cricket Academy. He influenced many high profile Indian cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sandeep Patil, Sanjay Manjrekar, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Mohammed Kaif, Yuvraj Singh and Rohit Sharma.

 

Passing away of Vasoo  Sir, is a big loss to the entire cricket fraternity.

According to his  many well wishers, he will be  remembered for his passion, energy and tireless efforts for serving the game of cricket. Many have called him a great human being. Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar while paying tribute to his mentor on twitter said, “I feel that a piece of me has left the world.”
