Former coach Pramanick gets Lifetime Achievement Award


Dr. P. Pramanick, a former long-serving badminton coach was the proud recipient of the Dr. Ajmer Singh Award for Lifetime Achievement in Coaching, during the recent 6th PEFI National Awards Function at the NDMC Convention Centre, Sansad Marg, Jantar Mantar Road, New Delhi.

PEFI (Physical Education Foundation of India) National Awards were conceptualized to honor outstanding achievements in Physical Education, Coaching, Research and Allied fields.


Former National champion Hufrish Nariman

The dedicated and committed coach Pramanick worked selflessly and tirelessly to hone the skills and shape the careers of many talented badminton players, and with over a dozen excelling with honours, at both the international and national competitions.

Some of the prominent players who benefited from Pramanick’s coaching, include National champions Hufrish Nariman, Vandana Chiplunkar, Radka Bose, Sudha Bafa, Manik Paranjpe and Ameeta Kulkarni among the women players. The men’s players who gained from Pramanick’s guidance were Rajeev Bagga, Pradeep Gandhe, Uday Pawar, Bhushan Akut, Rajeev Kunte, Vikram Singh, Madhur Bexbora, K.K. Cheema, Sanat Mishra, Ashok Raman (USA) and Sunil Weling (World Airtimes).

Nariman was happy that the efforts of her coach finally got recognition. “Coach Pramanick Sir really deserves this award. His selfless and dedicated service in the field of coaching for over 30 years has helped many players like me to compete with distinction at the highest level,” said Nariman.

“Coach Sir (Pramanick) was self-sacrificing as he did not charge a single rupee from any of his trainees. He would come to the city all the way from IIT Powai at 9.30 pm to give me practice and return home after midnight. That tells volumes of his dedication and commitment,” Nariman further stated.

Pramanick was associated and served as NIS Wing Coach (Badminton) 1969 to 1976, retired as Sports Officer (SG) IIT Bombay and retired as Hon. Director & Chief Coach Pramanick Badminton Coaching Centre (Free) at IIT Bombay.
