Fleetfooters easily retain BPFL crown


 

Defending champions Fleetfooters SC produced another strong performance and in comprehensive fashion retained their crown. They scored a goal in each to quash the aspiration of Milan Club by romping to a fluent 2-0 win in the final of the third Borivali Premier Football League (BPFL), conducted by the Borivali Sports Foundation under the auspices of the MDFA and played at the St. Francis D’Assisi High School ground, Borivali (West).

Fleetfooter who were more organized and displayed good understanding enjoyed the major share of the exchanges and their hard work paid off in the 33rd minute when striker Nishant Shetty scored from a snap effort to give the  team a 1-0 half time lead.

 

After the change of ends, the youthful Soccer Starz players put up a more determined approach and tried their best to find the equalizer, but they were kept in check by the rival defenders. With the match reaching its conclusion Grenville Murzello scored the second goal way into stoppage time to seal Fleetfooters win and emerge champions.

 

Earlier, Maryland United blanked ND2 Soccer Starz 3-0 in the Third place match.

 

Dhuval Waghela of ND2 Soccer Starz won the Golden Boot award, while Tushar Poojary of Fleetfooters was declared as ‘The Player of the Tournament’.

 

Vivek Tiwari (Challengers FC) was named as the Best Goalkeeper, Nishant Shetty (Fleetfooters) won the best Defender award and the Best Forward prize went to Amey Bhatkal (Milan Club).
