FC Pune City, Pune scored a decisive second half goal to record a hard-fought 1-0 win against defending champions Keshav Madhav Pratishtan (KMP) XI, Pune in a tense and intriguing boys’ under-14 final of the 2nd WIFA Youth Boys (U-14) Championship 2018-19 and played at the Cooperage ground. Striker Dinesh Singh netted the crucial winner to help Pune City emerge champions on their debut.
The summit clash between the Pune outfits was a fast-paced and absorbing contest as both sides dished out a positive attacking display and there was not much to separate between the two teams.
After the first half failed to produce a goal, Dinesh broke the deadlock scoring with a left-foot essay in the 49th minute.
Thereafter the Pune City defended doggedly to hold onto to their lead till the end of the match to troop out victrious.
Pune City captain Franklin Nazareth won the ‘Best Player of the Tournament’ award while Kenkre FC’s sharpshooter Dexter Fernandes was awarded the ‘Golden Boot’ after he scored a total of 11 goals in the championship.
