Despite playing with a man short for an hour, Indian Navy still proved strong enough and cruised to a facile 5-1 win against G.M. Sports Club in an Elite Division match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League 2015-2016, and played at the Cooperage football ground, on Monday evening.
Sunil K. Naik, who scored Navy’s opening goal with a 15th minute strike, was shown the red card for dissent in the 29th minute.
The other four goals for Navy were scored by G. Priyo Kumar Sharma (25th), Riyadh B.(34th), V. Lalchhunmawia (58th) and Bibake Thappa (77th) while G.M. Sports pulled one back through Steve Kouassi (53rd ).
Meanwhile, Union Bank of India (UBI) and Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers (RCF) shared honours as they were engaged in tame goalless
Both the teams were evenly balanced but lacked creativity and ideas. They were unable to produce much attacking place and create goal scoring opportunities as the match meandered out into a draw.
There will be no match on Tuesday. The next Elite Division match will be played between Karnatak SA and ONGC on Wednesday, October 6 at 3.00 pm.
