Ishpreet Singh Chadha of Mumbai came out all guns blazing against Asutosh Padhy also from Mumbai and breezed to a 4-0 victory in the best-of-7-frame round of 32 match of the Rs 12.9 lakhs CCI All India Open Snooker Championship 2019, and played at the CCI’s Sir Wilson Jones Billiards Room, on Saturday.

The Khar Gymkhana player fired in three substantial breaks of 63 in the second frame, 58 in the third and signed off with a composed 86 in the fourth to power his way to a 63-33, 69-14, 106-19 and 101-8 victory.

 

Top-ranked Pankaj Advani of ONGC had a routine day in office as he strolled past India’s number two ranked woman cueist Arantxa Sanchis of Pune by a clear 4-0 margin. Pankaj, the current National champion once again showed his class and compiled another century effort of 112 and two runs of 54 and 68 to post a 102-15, 89-4, 73-25 and 112-12 victory.

 

Defending champion Brijesh Damani of Indian Oil maintained his impressive run of form and sidelined Mumbai’s Hasan Badami by a facile 4-1 margin in another round of 32 match.

 

The Kolkata-based Damani played steadily and did not hit the high notes, but grabbed every opportunity to roll in some small tidy efforts which proved sufficient for him to comfortably cross the finish line, easing to 65-39, 44-74, 68-25, 96-3 and 66-10 success.

 

Meanwhile on a side table, Malkeet Singh of Railways blew hot and cold and recovered from the brink of defeat to overcome Mumbai youngster Kreishh Gurbaxani by a tight 4-3 margin. Malkeet started promisingly and rolled in a 59 break to take the first frame and he then craftily constructed a 108 clearance to pocket the second to take a 2-0 lead.

 

Thereafter, he went off the boil and Kreishh gradually clawed his way back as he replied with a 53 effort in winning the third and then went on to win the next two to enjoy a 3-2 advantage. Kreishh enjoyed the upper hand in the sixth and was within striking distance of pocketing the frame and winning the match. But, he  missed a difficult last black and let Malkeet off the hook. The experienced Malkeet potted the black to level frame scores 3-all and then went onto the win the decider to complete a nerve-wracking 63-21, 108-0, 7-77, 27-80, 45-56, 60-59 and 66-43 win.
