Down Memory lane…. 40 years of Raaj Kumar starrer film ‘Bulundi’

Raaj Kumar made his debut in Hindi films in 1952 and since then for more than 30 years he played the lead roles. On 30th January 1981 his film ‘Bulundi’ was released at Imperial and other theatres in Mumbai. Director Esmayeel Shroff had offered him the lead role of an idealistic college professor Khurana , which was a very strong character facing a bunch of villains played by Danny, Jeevan, Kader Khan, Kishan Dhavan and others. Above all, Danny played double role of father and son, in this film . Actress Asha Parekh played his wife in this film. Raj Kiran played a student of this professor, who played son of Kader Khan. Raaj Kumar perfectly suited in this role and offered what was expected from him. This film was inspired by Sidney Poitier’s ‘To Sir With Love’. Later, in 1985 it was remade in Tamil as ‘Nermai’.   IMG-20210129-WA0012

‘Bulundi’ proved to be one of the best films of Raaj Kumar, who was known for his resilient dialogue deliveries. In this film too, he displayed emotions as well as actions, through his middle aged character. One particular scene where he faces the four strong villains trying to pressurize him to work for them. And he comes out with this strong dialogue addressed to Mr. Teja( Kader Khan)who threatens him. “Humko mitta sake yeh zamane mein dum nahin … humse zamana khud hain … zamane se hum nahin.” The scene ends with this dialogue. Even today, 40 years later this dialogue is still fresh in memory of Hindi film lovers.Danny Raaj K

The characters Raaj Kumar played in different films had so much of appeal that the scene used to end with his dialogues. And, ‘Bulundi’ was one such film.
