Karan Hegiste from VPM (Dahisar) recorded a sprint double by winning the 100m and 200m sprints in the boys under-16 category in the Mumbai District Annual Athletic Championships, held at Sports Authority of India, Kandivali, here today. Karan who earlier had bettered the 100m record of 11.5 secs. to clinch gold in 11.0 seconds, went one better today by capturing thr 200m gold too with yet another record-breaking feat. His timing of 22.8 secs thus rewrote the old mark of 23.6 secs.

Another salient feature of the day was that the boys under-20 winner (Sahebjeet Singh Rance)’s timing (4.13 secs) was better than the men’s winner’s timing of 4:33.7 secs for the same distance.
It was 1-2-3 for Gupta Sports Academy as their trio of Deepak Karde (23.2 secs), Hitesh Jadhav and Rahul Ranjane took the gold, silver and bronze respectively in the men’s 200m event.

Among girls, Sharavari Parulekar of Udyachal, Vikhroli added 100m hurdles gold to her record-breaking gold in the long jump event. She bettered the old mark of 15.8 secs by clinching gold in 15-2 secs. thus bettering the old mark of 15.8 secs. Earlier
Sharvari had won the long jump event with a leap of 5.55 mts, which incidentally eclipsed the old mark of 5.14 mts.
