Double crowns for Shubham Ambre


 

Shubham Ambre was in excellent form and produced some impressive performances to canter towards twin triumphs, winning the Youth Boys singles and Men’s singles title in the Malabar Hill Club 5-Star Mumbai City District TT Championship 2018, conducted under the auspices of the MCDTTA.

Unseeded in the men’s competition, Shubham showed great character and loads of determination to record a stunning 3-1 win against the top seed Tanmay Rane in the summit clash. Rane narrowly won the first game, but later was outfoxed by the young Shubham who was consistent with his play and managed to script a well-earned 9-11, 11-8, 11-3 and 11-7 victory, to clinch a grand double crowns.

Earlier, the second-seeded Shubham got the better of top seed Parthav Kelkar, winning in three games at 11-3, 11-7 and 12-10 in the Youth Boys Singles final. The Youth Girls singles final also saw one sided match between Mansi Chiplunkar and Nimish Warang with Mansi bagging the title.

 

The women’s final  which was a contest between the top seed Senhora D’souza and second seed Shweta Parte. In this final, Senhora  managed to overcome Shweta  in five well-fought games, winning at  11-7, 11-8, 9-11, 7-11 and 11-9. This was the best match of the evening.

Women singles (final): Senhora D’Souza bt Shweta Parte 11-7, 11-8, 9-11, 7-11, 11-9. Semi-finals: Senhora D’Souza bt Misbah Sumer 11-7, 11-7. 11-2; Shweta Parte bt Mansi Chiplunkar 6-11, 11-9, 11-8, 12 10.

Youth Boys (final): Shubham Ambre bt Parthav Kelkar 11-3, 11-7, 12-10.

Youth girls (finals): Mansi Chiplunkar bt Nimisha Warang 13-11, 11-8, 11-4. Semi-finals: Mansi Chiplunkar bt Hia Doshi 11-4, 11-6, 11-9; Nimisha Warang bt Misbah Sumer 11-6, 11- 9, 11-7.
