Sameer Bhate and Prakash Kelkar bagged double crown at the recently concluded 2nd IMPTTA_ PTKS Masters’ State Ranking Table Tennis tournament at Prabodhankar Thackeray Kreeda Sankul, Vile Parle. This tournament was held in honour of Former 14times Masters’ National champ Evergreen Prakash Kelkar, who has been continuously playing competitive table tennis for more than 50 years.
Sameer Bhate bagged double when after winning the Men’s 39+ team event, he went on to score his win over Kiran Salian in the finals of Men’s 49+ Singles; while cool and composed Suhas Rane who partnered Sameer Bhate in Men’s 39+ team event, scored over Nashik’s Dr. Amol Sarode in a final battle for winning the individual Men’s 39+ trophy. Prakash Kelkar, in whose honour this tournament was conducted, bagged the team title in Men’s 59+, for his team Kalidas Sports Complex, Mulund along with Avinash Kothari. Later, he went on to win the Men’s Singles 64+ title, beating Anil Rasam in the finals. Though Prakash had little difficulty in earlier rounds, Anil had to fight hard to overcome the stiff resistance from Mahesh Shetye, before winning 3-2.
Suhas Rane bagged the Men’s 39+ Singles trophy, after defeating Nashik’s Dr. Amol Sarode in the final, while renowned Physiotherapist Dr. Sadiya Vanjara scored over Vinita Shukla in the finals of Women’s 39+ to bag her Winner’s trophy. In the Men’s 59+ Singles Jogesh Motwani emerged the Winner, after defeating Pramod Desai in the finals. Reigning National champion Ulhas Shirke who had a tough time overcoming the challenge from Nashik’s Shivanand Kundaje in quarter finals of Men’s 69+ Singles, later went on to defeat Antonio Gomes and Yogesh Desai successively, in staright games in semis and finals.
Dilip Kudtarkar defeated former champ of 60s R.R.Borkar to lift the Men’s 74+ crown, while Satish Shirsat scored over Subodh Narvekar in the finals of Men’s 79+ singles. In the Women’s section, Asian Masters’ runner-up Moonmoon Mukherjee lifted the Women’s 49+ crown defeating Trupti Machave , Manisha Pradhan and Rajeshwari Mhetre bagged Women’s 59+ and Women’s 64+ crown, after scoring over Jayashree Nair and Suhasini Bakre respectively.
Mr. Sunil Godase OSD, BMC was the chief guest along with Mr.R.C.Shah Ex. Divisional Jt. Registrar (Govt. of Maharashtra) as guest of honour. Speaking on this occasion, after felicitating Prakash Kelkar, he said, “ I am really delighted to to witness the spirit of all those especially nearing 70 and above 70 years.” He also assured all the help from his side to conduct any table tennis tournaments in near future at Kalidas Sports Club , Mulund and Andheri Sports Complex, Andheri. Renowned television and film actor Shivaji Satam who has been recently conferred with this year’s Late V.Shantaram Award, paid a surprise visit during the finals.
This two day Masters’ ranking tournament, which had received overwhelming response, was organised very well by team IMPTTA led by Sameer Bhate, Sachin D’Souza & Shravani Dhapre, by providing free breakfast, nutritious diet lunch, tea- biscuits to all the participants. The matches were streamed live on youtube.
