Diya,Swastika march into Q/f

Diya Chitale and Swastika Ghosh, both from Maharashtra eased their way into the last eight round of the sub-junior girls’ singles event in the 11Even Sports National Ranking (Central Zone) Table Tennis Championships at the Abhay Prashal Indoor Stadium.

In pre-quarter-final encounters, Diya Chitale put up steady display and except for a bit of resistance from West Bengal’s Poymantee Baisya, the Maharashtra lass cruised to a 3-0 (11-7, 15-13, 11-5) victory. In contrast, Swastika was aggressive from the start and tamed Delhi’s Anubha Bajaj posting a fluent 3-0 (11-5, 11-7, 11-4) win and a passage to the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Goan paddler Tanisi Kirtani exhibited plenty of determination and tremendous fighting qualities as she came from behind to overcome Nikita Sarkar of North Bengal 3-2. Tanisi lost the opening two games rather tamely, but bounced back strongly and managed to closely win the next three games   to complete a satisfying 6-11, 5-11, 12-10, 11-9, 11-9 verdict and to book a berth in the quarter-finals.

 

In cadet boys’ singles last 16 matches, Maharashtra’s Jash Modi and Shantesh Mapsekar of Goa scored contrasting win to advance to the quarter-finals. Jash rallied from the loss of the first two games to put it across Arnav Aggarwal of Chandigarh 3-2 (9-11, 4-11, 16-14, 11-2, 11-3), while Shantesh had a much relaxed outing defeating Punjab’s Suhan Gulati 3-0 (11-7, 11-5, 11-6).
