Diya,Srushti selected for ITTF World Cadet Challenge


Kamlesh Mehta appointed coach of World Hopes Team

Two young talented girl’s from Mumbai, Diya Chitale and Srushti Haleangadi, are among the three Indian players selected to participate in the 2015 ITTF World Cadet Challenge in Table Tennis to be held at the Egyptian resort of Sharm El-Sheik from October 23 to 31. Parth Virmani from Delhi is the third player selected from India.

Monalisa Barua Mehta, an Arjuna Awardee and National coach has also been selected to travel to Egypt as coach of the World Hopes team that has Diya as a member.
The 12-year-old Diya was selected as member of the World Hopes Team after her brilliant bronze-winning performance in the ITTF World Hopes Week and Challenge held at Shanghai, China in July 2015. Meanwhile, the 15-year-old Srushti Haleangadi got selected as member of the prestigious Asian Team on the basis of her sterling performance at the Asian Cadet Championship at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in July 2015.

This prestigious event of ITTF is restricted to only 8 teams. One each from the 6 Continents of the world – Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America, North America and Oceania plus the World Hopes Team and the Host Egypt Team.
Both Diya and Srushti echoed similar sentiments on their selection for this event. “We are grateful to our parents, School authorities, Khar Gymkhana and coaches Sachin Shetty and Kamlesh Mehta for encouraging and guiding us to focus on our game and perform at the highest level. We have been working hard and are confident of putting up a good show,” they both opined.
