Juniors Divyanshi Bhowmick and Sharveya Samant will be the players to watch at the ongoing Matunga Gymkhana- Selection Sports 4 Star All Mumbai Table Tennis Tournament. This tournament is played under the auspices of MCDTTA. Watching the progress of these two youngsters this year, their game will invite a lot of attention, as both are expected to play on the final day evening in their respective events, where they are eligible to play.
12 year old Divyanshi is the favourite once again to bag Triple Crown in Girls U-15, U-17 and U-19 events, while young Sharveya Samant who is playing in Boys U-17, U-19 and also in the Men’s Singles has also brightened his chances to win Triple Crown in these three events. There is not much competition for talented Divyanshi, but Sharveya will have to fight hard to achieve his new target. Another talented boy Dhruv Shah who is also expected to win Boys-U-15 and U-17 events, is looked upon as a bright prospect from Maharashtra for the National Championship.
In the Veterans’ Men’s 40+ section, which also attracted many entries with 22 groups for the league, witnessed many good matches from the very 1st round of the main draw. Pankaj Harlalka from Garware Club House, who does not play regularly in tournaments, displayed very good game in the group league, beating Ojas Choksi in a five game battle before qualifying with him in the main draw. And yesterday in the main draw he knocked out Corporate Champ Yash Doshi in another five games thriller. His, however lost to Aashay Pisal in the next round.
