12 year old Divyanshi Bhowmick from Ryan International School, Kandivali, who has just returned with a Gold Medal for India at the WTT Youth Contender,Bangkok, reported today for her Women’s Singles match in Khar Gymkhana. This is the All Mumbai 4 Star Table Tennis tournament organised by Khar Gymkhana and Sponsored by DCB Bank and played under the auspices of TSTTA and MCDTTA.
Divyanshi could not take part in other girls events and missed her Triple Crown this time, as she was in Bangkok . But, she did display her mettle in the Women’s event, where she caused a major upset in her group stage match defeating Senhora D’Souza 3-0 . Senhora had recently won the Women’s Singles event at Matunga Gymkhana tournament.In the Quarter finals, Divyanshi defeated Hardee Patel 3-1 to enter the semi finals of Women’s Singles, where she will take on Ananya Basak, who beat Shweta Parte 3-1 in other quarter finals.
Actually, Divyanshi should be allowed to play in Women’s event, besides her three girls events, as it is understood that other TT Associations are permitting the players to do so, with proper scheduling of the events. In our last report during Matunga Gymkhana TT, we had expected her to play even in Women’s event besides her Girls events, as she has been performing extremely well this season. And today, she has proved that she is capable of beating the best players in Women’s event too.
Senhora, who had taken 2nd place from her group to qualify for the Women’s Singles main draw, went on to beat Ananya Chande 3-1 in the 3rd Quarter finals of Women’s Singles.The fourth Quarter finals which was played between Siya Hingorany and Sampada Bhiwandkar was won by Sampada, beating her strong opponent 3-2 in a well contested match. The other semi final match will be played between Senhora and Sampada. These semi finals of Women’s Singles will now be played on Sunday in the morning session.
