Divyanshi bags 4 titles; brace by Dhruv & Yogesh


FOR Divyanshi Bhowmick, the current  National under-15 champion, it was unique and glorious  achievement as she ended up with four titles-  women’s singles and girls under-19, under-17 and under-15 singles- on the final day of the MCF-TSTTA-2nd  District Ranking table tennis tournament, held  at Borivali’s Mandpeshwar Civic Federation Sports Complex here on sunday evening.

Sharing the final day’s honours her was unseeded  lefthander Dhruv Shah, whose  giant- killing run brought him  the men’s and boys under-19 titles.

Divyanshi, did meet tough challenge in the senior categories . She fought neck to neck before she prevailed over women’s top seed  Sampada Bhiwandkar 11-4, 13-11, 11-8, 11-9. Later she went through another gruelling under-19 finals before she triumphed over Urvi Churi 11-9, 9-11, 11-5,11-5, 11-9. But for her under under-17 and under-15 finals, it was a cake-walk as she proved far superior from her rivals.

However, It was touch and go for Dhruv in the men’s singles final against favourite  Yuvaj Yadav, but after dropping the first game he  came roaring back to romp through  next four games  (6-11, 11-8, 12-10, 11-6, 11-7) to clinch his maiden men’s singles ltitle. Latter in the boys under-19 finals, Dhruv had tough time against top seeded Vineet Deepak. After sharing the first four games, he asserted himselfinthe end  to triumph 11-9, 7-11,12-10, 11-6, 7-11, 11-6.

In the Veterans Men’s Singles event, Yogesh Desai bagged double crown . In Men’s 59-64+ Final, Yogesh scored a straight 3 games win over Prashant Machve; but had to fight hard to overcome his National doubles partner Ulhas Shirke in a closely contested match, which he won 3-2 after winning the decider over extra points.

Boys U-17 singles: Arnav Kshirsagar bt (1)-Yuvraj Yadav 12-14, 11-8, 11-4, 12-10, 11-4.
