Dhruv, Mugdha claim CCI Cadet boys’ & girl’s titles


 

A resilient Dhruv Shah displayed solid fighting qualities Cadet as he staged a remarkable recovery in the deciding game to overcome Yuvraj Yadav 3-2 in a tense and thrilling Cadet Boys final of the CCI Juniors Prize-Money Table Tennis Tournament 2020, at the Cricket Club of India Table Tennis Room.

Earlier, Mugdha Desai claimed the Cadet Girls’ crown defeating Prisha Shah, in four hard-fought games at 11-8, 9-11, 12-10 and 11-9.

 

Dhruv and Yuvraj, both played to their potential and were engaged in a fierce tussle for supremacy as fortunes fluctuated throughout the marathon encounter.

 

Yuvraj trailing 1-2, won a long fourth game over extra points to force the fifth game. In the decider,  Yuvraj started positively and raced to a 8-4 lead, but a determined Dhruv was not prepared to give up and stayed in the fight with some steady play. He managed to draw level at 9-all and as the game extended into extra points, Dhruv finally clinched the issue when Yuvraj sent a return into the net and snatched a 11-6, 6-11, 11-8, 15-17 and 14-12 victory to emerge champion.

Results – Cadet Girls (final): Mugdha Desai bt Prisha Shah  11-8, 9-11, 12-10, 11-9.

 

Semi-finals: Prisha Shah bt Anshita Tamhankar 5-11, 11-911-7, 11-3; Mugdha Desai bt Urvi Churi 11-6, 12-10, 5-11, 11-9.

 

Cadet Boys – Final: Dhruv Shah bt Yuvraj Yadav 11-6, 6-11, 11-8, 15-17, 14-12.

 

Semi-finals: Dhruv Shah bt Vedant Agarwal 11-3, 11-8, 7-11, 6-11, 11-8; Yuvraj Yadav bt Tavanath Nerjale 11-6, 11-8, 7-11, 11-9.

 

Earlier, in the Boys’ semi-finals, Dhruv Shah got the netter of Vedant Agarwal 11-3, 11-8, 7-11, 6-11, 11-8 and Yuvraj prevailed over Tavanath Nerjale 11-6, 11-8, 7-11, 11-9.

 

In the Girls’ semi-finals, Prisha recovered to tame Anshita Tamhankar 5-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-3, while  Mugdha defeated Urvi Churi 11-6, 12-10, 5-11, 11-9.

 

Hardee Patel & Havish Asrani  recorded contrasting victories to claim the Sub-Junior Girls’& Boys’  crowns respectively .

 

Results Sub-Junior Girls (final): Hardee Patel beat Sana D’Souza 11-5, 5-11, 11-5, 8-11, 11-4.

Semi-finals: Hardee Patel beat Ananya Chande 11-7, 8-11, 11-9, 5-11, 11-7; Sana D’Souza beat Pearl Amalsadiwala 11-9, 11-8, 11-5.

 

Sub-Junior Boys – Final: Havish Asrani bt Akshat Jain 11-4, 11-7, 11-6.

Semi-finals: Havish Asrani bt Mainak Nestala 14-12, 11-6, 11-8; Akshat Jain bt Chaitanya Ahuja 11-6, 11-5, 11-6.
