DHRUTI SHROFF. A seventh standard student from CNM School, was the star performer with four golds in the girls under-13 section on the first day of the two-day GMAAA (Greater Mumbai Amateur Aquatic Association) Annual Inter-school and Junior college swimming championships held at Borivali’s Mandeshwar Civic Federation’s swimming pool today (Saturday).
Dhruti’s gold haul was in 100m individual medley (01:19.96 secs), 50m free style (00:32.12 secs), 50m butterfly (00:33.28 secs and 50m breast stroke (00:40.50 secs). The only golds she missed was in the 100m freestyle stroke which was won by Alina Munshi, of Adtiya Birla school, in 01:09.69secs. And in the day’s sixth event – 50m back stroke- she had to rest contend with a bronze medal.
Utkkarsh Mehta of Oberoil OGC topped boys under-13 section. Utkkarsh winning golds in the 50 breast stroke, with a timing of 00:38.44 secs), 100 freestyle (01: 01.06) and 100m free style ( 01:06.22) events. But he finished with a bronze in the 50m free style.
While Amatullah Dholkawala of JB Petit dominated in the girls under-11 category, winning 2 golds, 1 silver and 1 bronze. And Rivan Kolahi kept his JBCN (Parel) school’s flag flying with a brace of golds in the under -11 section.
It was Pahel Shah, from R.S.Bajaj-AVM who took the honous in the girls under-7 events, winning three golds and a silver. While, Shaurya Agnihotri, of R.N.Podar, secured two golds and a silver to emerge best n the boys under-7 secion.
The hosts MCF were happy lot as almost 400 boys and girls from various city and suburban schools took part.
