Dhrumil Matkar spins Payyade SC to a quick 6-wicket victory


 

Defending champions Payyade Sports Club riding on the brilliant bowling performance of left-arm spinner Dhrumil Matkar (6 for 28 runs) recorded a quick thumping 6-wicket victory against Islam Gymkhana on the first day, of the concluding Group-A league match of the Automotive Manufacturing-74th Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament 2021-2022 and played at the Islam Gymkhana ground on Saturday.

Islam Gymkhana deciding to bat first were caught in the spin web spun by Matkar who picked up crucial wickets and reduced the opposition for a paltry total of 131 runs all out in just 29.3 overs. Kaustubh Pawar and Salman Ahmed offered some resistance making 54 and 41 runs respectively. Matkar received good support from Prade5ep Sahu who claimed 53 wickets for 27 runs.

 

 

Payyade comfortably chased down the winning target scoring 135 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 20.4 overs. Bhupen Lalwani scored an unbeaten 75 runs knock to ensure Payyade sailed through. Payyade with 6 points qualified for the semi-finals from this group.

 

 

In a Group-B encounter, MIG Cricket Club powered by Kevin D’Almeida’s century knock 100 runs (101b, 14×4, 2×6) were well placed at 308 for 6 wickets in 58 overs against National Cricket Club. Anand Bais was batting on 75 at the draw of stumps on day-1 at the National Cricket Club.

 

 

The Group-D match between hosts Mumbai Police Gymkhana and Parkophene Cricketers is turning out to be a closely fought contest as the winner will advance to the semi-finals. Parkophene Cricketers batting first made 291 for 7 wickets in 63 overs in the first innings. Akhtar Shaikh is unbeaten on 83 runs and keeping him company is Ajay Mishra unbeaten 44 runs. Sahil Jadhav and Akshat Jain contributed 49 and 41 runs respectively while Yogesh Jagtap (2/66) was the lone Mumbai Police Gymkhana bowler to get wickets.
