Rudra Football Academy showed plenty of grit and determination to snatch a narrow 1-0 win against United Villagers Welfare Association in a tense and lively First Division final of the Rustomjee-MDFA League 2019-2020 and played at the Cooperage.
The two teams showed positive intent from the outset and played an open attacking game and there was plenty of action in front of goal at both ends. However, the exciting contest could only produce one goals which came from a penalty.
In the 28th minute, United Villagers defenders committed a foul inside the penalty area and referee Rajesh Kanojia without hesitation pointed to the penalty spot. Striker Siddharth Kamble stepped forward to take the penalty and he coolly fired past United Villagers goalkeeper Griaton Noon to put his team front and go into the break with a slender 1-0 lead.
After changing ends, United Villagers showed more urgency and worked hard to find the equaliser. But, they wasted quite a few chances and could not deny Rudra FA from walking away with the top honours.
The victorious Rudra FA team received the First Division trophy from Chief Guest Souter Vaz, Hon. Secretary, WIFA.
