There is no stopping this Bandra girl. For someone who started participating in National Championship post 35 years of age, this fiercely competitive badminton player has won … take a deep breath… SEVEN National Medals!

This year’s National Masters Championship which was a precursor for the Masters World Championship to be held at the same venue in September 2017 saw the irrepressible Deanne qualify for the international event in both her categories.

The icing on the cake, of course, was the 40+ Women’s Double crown that she won with partner Nisha Springett. It must be noted that just a few years ago Deanne and Nisha had reached quarter finals of the 35+ Women’s Doubles at the World Championship held at Ankara, Turkey.

She also won bronze in the 35+ Mixed Doubles event with Sameer Bhagwat of Pune after losing out a tight semifinal match to the eventual winners Neelima Chowdary and Abhinand Shetty. Incidentally, Deanne and Sameer were the defending champions in the category.
