Darryl Crasto football from May 7


The Catholic Gymkhana will be conducting the Late Darryl Crasto Memorial Trophy Rink Football Tournament for Men Open under floodlights at the Gymkhana’s newly laid artificial surface, Marine Drive from May 7 to 16, 2019.  The tournament will be conducted under the auspices of the MDFA.

All the top Mumbai footballers will be representing their respective clubs in this tournament which will played on a knockout basis and all matches would be played in the evenings.

 

Simultaneously the Catholic Gymkhana would also be conducting a competition for Women’s who will fight it out for the Late Dereyk DeSouza Memorial Trophy and a Veterans Men (abover 45 years) tournament for the Late Neville D’Souza Memorial Trophy.

 

The winners and runners-up will be presented with handsome trophies and cash awards. In addition there will be individual prizes.

 

The Catholic Gym has organized the Darryl Crasto tournament to keep alive the memory of Darryl who a Managing Committee member of the gymkhana. And also the women’s and veteran tournaments is being organized to recognize the achievements of Dereyk DeSouza who was a former Indian footballer and coach of top Indian clubs and Olympian Neville D’Souza who was the elder brother of Dereyk, and also an Indian footballer who represented the country at the 1956 Summer Olympics. During the 1956 Games, he became the first Asian player to score a hat-trick in the Olympics football event.
