Consistent Parikh fires break of 189


Showing great consistency, seasoned pro Siddharth Parikh (-240 handicap) of Adamo Potters produced another sterling performance by compiling a mammoth break of 189, which is the highest in the competition at the moment. That effort was the highlight as Adamo Potters defeated Rrockets 3-0, in the best-of-five-frames (100 up format); second round-robin league match of the BSAM (Billiards & Snooker Association of Maharashtra) organized Rs 10 lakh prize-money 2nd Videocon-Billiards Premier League (BPL) 2015, and played at the Hindu Gymkhana’s Wilson Jones Billiards Hall on Thursday night. The BPL 2015 is being ‘Powered by Videocon’ and hosted by Bombay Gymkhana.

Potters got off to a bright start as their doubles pairing of Farhad Jambusaria and Chetan Hemadi (-65) prevailed over Manav Panchal and Satbir Narula (-50) 165-141 in the first frame to put them in front. Later, in the second frame, Parikh who up against Rrockets’ young talent Dhvaj Haria (-190) quickly got into his rhythm and in his very fourth visit amassed the huge run. He could have extended the break but after reaching the magical figure of 189 he ran out of position and was forced to play a safe shot. A couple of visits later he completed the win with an unfinished break of 64 to clinch a 340-69 win and give his team a 2-0 advantage.

Parikh’s brilliant display seemed to have inspired Hitesh Kotwani (-130) who went on to tame Raajeev Sharma (-70) by a comfortable 230-166 margin in the third frame and finish a deserving win for Potters who have now won both their matches. For Rrockets this was their first defeat which came after their fluent 3-0 win against Rajdhani Ke Aryans on Wednesday.

Reigning Asian Billiards Champion Dhruv Sitwala (-240) also came with up a couple of good breaks including a century run as he won both his frames to help Ottomans snatch a close 3-2 win against Rajdhani Ke Aryans in another league match. Sitwala made breaks of 90 and 80 as he defeated Rishabh Kumar (-70) in the second frame and later had a runs of 125 and 52 in the fourth frame which he once again won against Kumar. Ottomans Amit Sapru (-60) overcame Nalin Patel (-210) in the deciding 5th frame to wrap up the match in their favour.

In the two other matches, Mumbai Stars and SPG Billiardiers, defeated Siddhant Strikers 3-1 and Race for Gold 3-2 respectively, to record their second successive wins.
