Mahesh Jagdale of Elphinstone Cricket Club was in impressive form and played consistently and with an all-win (6 matches) record finished as the top-ranked billiards player in the Greatwhite-Maharashtra State Selection Billiards, Snooker & 6 Red Snooker Tournament 2023, organized by the Billiards & Snooker Association of Maharashtra.
Shahyan Razmi with four wins to his credit claimed the second position, while Hitesh Kotwani (PJHG) and Rajeev Sharma both with 3 wins each were third and fourth respectively.
The seasoned cueist and former champion Jagdale showed great character and produced some steady performances to win all his six matches in the Senior Billiards 8-player round-robin draw. Jagdale’s club mate Anurag Bagri did not compete in the final phase of this competition.
Jagdale started with a tense win against former Maharashtra number one Razmi clinching a 3-2 verdict. He then put in across another stalwart Vishal of Chembur Gymkhana by an identical 3-2 frame score.
After those two hard-fought victories, Jagdale put up a solid display against Malabar Hill Club’s Rajeev Sharma charging to a quick 3-0 win for his third success. Jagdale then sidelined Hitesh Kotwani of P.J. Hindu Gymkhana for his fourth win on the trot.
He later staved off a spirited challenge from Khar Gymkhana’s Sparsh Pherwani snatching a tight 3-2 frame score victory and then signed off with a flourish as he blanked Dadar Club’s Carl Serrao 3-0.
Meanwhile, Razmi also played steadily and managed to overcome Serrao, Kotwani and Madan by identical 3-2 frame scores and then dropped one frame in defeating Sharma by a 3-1 margin. He had lost to Jagdale and Pherwani by 2-3 scores.
