Companeroes Sports Club and Republicans Sports Club recorded contrasting victories in the Men’s Open first round matches of the Bandra Gymkhana Annual Rink Hockey Tournament 2023 and played at the Gymkhana’s turf late on Tuesday evening.
Powered by energetic forward Sanket Dhotre who notched a fine hat-trick, Companeroes defeated Hockey Anstrengung 7-2. Dhotre’s teammate Daniel D’Souza contributed two goals while Shelton Carvalho and Orston D’Souza chipped in with one each to complete the win. Hockey Astrengung scored through Pawan Samantray and Vijay Pillay.
Later, Republicans SC riding on goals from Raj Solanki and Rhythm Mamania got the better of Union Bank Boys by a narrow 2-1 margin. Chelsea Medappa scored Union Bank’s lone goal.
In Women Open competition, Sports Authority of India (SIA) Red easilt defeated Star Pune by a 5-1 margin. Isha Shrivastva and Pooja Rathod both scored a brace of goals while Anjali R. scored one to seal SAI’s win, while the Pune side pulled one back through Glory Daniyal.
In another women’s encounter, Warriors SC proved too good and blanked India Rush 7-0. Leading Warriors charge was Akshaya Shetty who struck a hat-trick of goals while Yogita Passi, Bhagyashree Agarwal, Tanaz Mohammed and Deepa Chury, all added one apiece to round off the winning tally.

Women Open: Sea View SC 1 (Reshma Mahadik) beat Savio Hockey Foundation 0.
